"Spring" Poetry UnitI created a month-long poetry unit in March 2015 with a theme of "spring" that included both lessons from the school curriculum, and a variety of fun lessons about choral reading, concrete poetry, list poems, and onomatopoeias. In the above picture, students had just returned from going outside to collect natural objects to inspire their poems. Here they are drawing what they found in their poetry journals. Additionally, students submitted their poems to Leslie Science and Nature Center as a way to get involved in the community. The unit culminated with a poetry slam, where parents were invited and students read their favorite two poems which were projected to the whiteboard.
